i've never TRIED to do either of those. short(er) distances are not my focus, so there's not reason to focus on that.
If I set out to do a 40 10K, would you then tell me i've never run a sub-5 min mile? What if I want to run a sub-5 mile, do i need to run a sub-55 400?
Maybe not to that extreme, but a sub 1:30 is a good start to perform a sub 3 hour marathon. From your posts, you haven't ran anything near that. Focus on 1:30 half then a sub 1:25.

how do you expect to run a 2:59 when you have never broke a 1:30 at a half and a 40 at a 10K? Focus on those goals first, then shoot for a 2:59.
